What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is anything that offers a means of escape, recreation, diversion or pleasure, by temporarily removing people from their normal routines and mundane realities. It includes activities such as watching movies, playing sports, going to concerts, and other recreational activities. Entertainment has a high degree of crossover between different media. It is understood objectively, communicates between text and audience, relates to an external stimulus, offers pleasure and requires passive participation from the audience. According to Oliver and Barstsch (2010), Entertainment is characterized by six elements: it is an activity, occurs in a context, is consumer activity, involves an audience, and offers pleasure.
