What is Fashion?
Fashion is the style of dressing that reflects who you are and how you want to be perceived. It can be an understated whisper or a high-energy scream. It’s about being comfortable with yourself and translating your self-esteem into a personal style. Fashion is about experimenting, trying on new things, discovering your unique look and showing it off to the world.
The fashion industry is multibillion dollar global and it’s a fast-paced and ever-changing business. In the past, women’s fashion magazines were the primary source of information on what was “in” and what was “out.” Today there are a number of fashion blogs, Twitter feeds and websites dedicated solely to fashion. In addition, major television shows have regular fashion segments and dedicated fashion shows are now commonplace.
Popular fashions are often close to impossible to trace. What was “in” in the eighteenth century England might have been Turkish at another time and Chinese at yet another time, and what is “in” now might be very similar to something that will be “out” in the future.
Having a sense of style is like learning to speak a foreign language, and it’s not a skill that you’re born with. It takes work and practice to develop your own unique style, but the rewards are great. You’ll find that when you show up wearing a stylish outfit, everyone gives you a second glance and tells you how good you look. And that’s the best thing about fashion: it makes you feel good.
